Room acoustics at the "Zum Ludwigskanal" inn in Burgthann
Located directly on the old Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal in Burgthann-Schwarzenbach, the "Zum Ludwigskanal" inn is a special place in the Nuremberg region. Anyone who arrives here immediately notices: This is not just any restaurant, but an inn with history, location, and character.
Situated by the canal, the inn is an ideal stopover for excursions and bike tours around Burgthann, Schwarzenbach, Altdorf bei Nürnberg, Feucht, Schwarzenbruck, and the Nuremberg region. In addition, it offers Franconian cuisine, a cozy beer garden, and rooms for guests, family celebrations, company events, and other gatherings.
Precisely where many people like to gather, room acoustics become particularly important.

Restaurant too loud? When reverberation becomes a problem in gastronomy
In restaurants, inns, cafés, and hotels, loudness often arises not just from individual guests, but from the room itself. Conversations, laughter, cutlery, dishes, chairs, hard surfaces, and full tables all generate sound. When this sound reflects within the room, reverberation occurs.
The consequence: The dining area seems louder, conversations become more difficult, and guests automatically speak louder. This further increases the noise level.
Even at the Zum Ludwigskanal inn, the issue of room acoustics was noticeable. With many guests and various room situations, reverberation and loudness occurred. This was not only relevant for guests but also for employees who work in this environment daily.
Owner Gerd Reither of Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal reported that the room noticeably became louder with many guests, and a desire for additional acoustic improvement arose.
How can one improve room acoustics in a restaurant?
A good acoustic solution for gastronomy must achieve two things: it must reduce reverberation and simultaneously fit the room.
At the Zum Ludwigskanal inn, the goal was not to create a standard technical solution. The room should remain cozy, be visually enhanced, and yet feel acoustically more pleasant.
Existing acoustic measures on the ceiling were a first step. Nevertheless, there was a desire to further quiet the room – without disturbing the inn's atmosphere.
After initial contact at a trade fair, Frankustika assessed the situation on-site, discussed the use of the rooms with the team, and developed a suitable proposal.
Individual acoustic pictures and the ANNA absorber were implemented.
Acoustic ceiling installed – but the room is still too loud?
We encounter this problem again and again in practice: a lot of money has already been invested in an acoustic ceiling or individual acoustic measures, but the desired effect is absent. The room remains echoey, conversations are strenuous, and the noise level quickly rises when there are many guests.
This does not automatically mean that the existing measure was wrong. But it does mean that room acoustics must be considered holistically.
In restaurants, inns, cafés, and hotels, not only the ceiling determines the sound in the room. Walls, window surfaces, floors, furnishings, room height, table arrangement, number of guests, and usage also play a role.
Therefore, it is important not to simply install any acoustic element, but to first correctly understand the room situation.
At Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal, an acoustic ceiling was already present. However, the desired effect had not yet been achieved. Frankustika supplemented the existing solution with individual acoustic pictures and the ANNA absorber. This created additional acoustically effective surfaces that made the room noticeably quieter and more pleasant.
For gastronomic establishments, this means: it is better to plan correctly early on than to have to costly rework later.

What do acoustic pictures do in a restaurant?
Acoustic pictures are particularly interesting for restaurants, inns, cafés, and hotels because they combine design and function. Guests first see a beautiful picture, a suitable motif, or a decorative addition to the room. The acoustic effect happens in the background.
At Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal, custom motifs were used, checked, and implemented as acoustically effective pictures. As a result, the acoustic pictures do not appear as foreign objects but fit the establishment, the decor, and the special location on the Ludwigskanal.
This was precisely what was important to the inn: not arbitrary standard pictures, but motifs that match their own business.
The solution was supplemented by Frankustika's ANNA absorber. Together, these elements help absorb sound in the room and reduce reverberation.
Not all acoustic pictures are equally effective
Anyone looking for acoustic pictures for restaurants, inns, or cafés will find many different solutions. At first glance, many products look similar. Acoustically, however, the differences can be significant.
Crucial is not just the motif on the surface, but above all the underlying construction: material, thickness, grammage, absorption area, and correct positioning in the room. A very thin picture can look beautiful visually, but it doesn't automatically mean it will absorb enough sound – especially not in a busy dining area with many conversations, hard surfaces, and high usage.
Therefore, Frankustika does not view acoustic pictures as mere decoration, but as part of a suitable room acoustic solution. Depending on the room, usage, and goal, a different construction may be appropriate. Sometimes a slimmer design is sufficient, sometimes stronger materials or additional absorber surfaces are needed.
It is important: The solution must fit the room. That is precisely why we discuss beforehand what effect is to be achieved, which areas can be usefully utilized, and which material thickness is suitable for the respective application.
At Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal, the acoustic pictures were therefore not simply used as wall decoration, but as acoustically effective additions to the existing room situation.
Less echo in Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal in Burgthann
After installation, the change was noticeable. The room felt muted, quieter, and more pleasant. The acoustic pictures and the ANNA absorber help to reduce reverberation and improve the soundscape in the dining area.
Visually, too, the elements were well received. Many guests initially perceived the pictures as beautiful design. Only then did it become clear that they also have an acoustic function.
This is exactly how good room acoustics in gastronomy should work: they improve the room without overloading it.

Good room acoustics make gastronomy more pleasant
An inn thrives on atmosphere. Guests should feel comfortable, be able to converse well, and enjoy staying. Especially in well-frequented rooms, poor acoustics can lead to conversations becoming strenuous and the room appearing restless.
Good room acoustics do not make a restaurant silent. They ensure that it sounds more pleasant.
This is an important distinction. An inn can be lively. But it should not feel echoey, overwhelming, or unpleasantly loud.
At Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal, therefore, the goal was not to change the atmosphere, but to improve it: less echo, more peace, and a more pleasant room sensation.
Positive feedback from guests
There was positive feedback from the inn regarding the appearance and effect of the acoustic pictures. The pictures were perceived as an enrichment for the room. Particularly nice: there were already inquiries about the origin of the acoustic pictures – also from other businesses and offices.
This shows that the solution is not only functional but also visibly convincing.
For Frankustika, this is precisely a strong result: if an acoustic solution makes the room quieter, matches the decor, and is also gladly recommended, then it fulfills its purpose.

Room acoustics for restaurants, inns, and hotels in the Nuremberg region
The project at Gasthaus Zum Ludwigskanal shows how room acoustics in gastronomy can look: individual, suitable for the room, and noticeably effective.
Especially in inns, restaurants, cafés, hotels, beer gardens with indoor areas, and event venues, good acoustics are an important part of the guest experience. Those who can converse better remain more relaxed. Employees who do not constantly have to work against the noise experience their workday more pleasantly.
And anyone entering a room perceives not only the furnishings, food, and service but also the feeling in the room.
Frankustika supports gastronomy businesses in Burgthann, Schwarzenbach, Altdorf bei Nürnberg, Feucht, Schwarzenbruck, Wendelstein, Nuremberg, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, and throughout the entire Nuremberg region in reducing reverberation and making rooms acoustically more pleasant.
Whether inn, restaurant, café, hotel, breakfast room, or event venue: good room acoustics ensure that rooms not only look good but also feel good.
